In 1988, Nonin Medical asked Insight to perform the human factors and industrial design functions for a patient monitoring technology that pushed the boundaries of accuracy and miniaturization. Insight presented the company with several designs the best of which became the Nonin 8500, Insight's first project as a company. It was a great success for Nonin and its core technology is still the industry standard today. "It is rare for medical products to have that kind of longevity in the market, which is a testament to technology and also the universal and timeless design," said Craig Scherer, co-founder of Insight. "It's pretty validating that our first design as a small start-up firm is still a successful product."
Insight will celebrate 20 years of successful design and innovation on July 18, 2008. To commemorate this achievement, we will post a short story about our company's evolution each month until our anniversary.
