Insight Wins International red dot Award for Green Design Concept
November 1, 2006 – Insight Product Development has received the prestigious 2006 red dot design award for its outstanding design concept of the Verdi Lawnscaping System. The environmentally conscious system is a modular landscaping alternative to traditional grass lawns. It transforms any space into a customizable, eco-sensitive landscape using interlocking tiles with built-in irrigation.
The red dot is one of the most sought after design awards worldwide and is awarded annually for innovative design in the “red dot design award” international competition. Design teams from Insight’s Chicago, Boston and Raleigh offices combined their talents to develop the winning concept entry.
"This award recognizes our design team’s effort in developing strong concept solutions and great design applied to real-world needs," said Steve McPhilliamy, Insight’s director of design. "The environmental elements used in the development of the Verdi System were inspired by several of our clients who provide creative solutions to sustainability and green issues. We used similar innovative thinking and passion to develop this award winning solution."
Insight’s design concept of the Verdi System practically eliminates the need for high-pollution mowers and inefficient water usage, making it beneficial for any climate. Pre-seeded tiles come complete with region-appropriate plant life further ensuring a sustainable landscape. The water collection system stores the rainwater and/or household gray water in reserves within each tile to enable an efficient plant growth system with little maintenance required. Modular accessories, such as solar-powered light tiles, pathway tiles and shrub planters, give Verdi a versatile option to most backyard do-it-yourselfers. By giving users a customizable and low-maintenance system, Verdi helps users beautify their surroundings in an ecologically responsible way.
A total of 478 designs were submitted in the concept category by designers from 40 countries. The award-winning works will be exhibited in the special exhibition “International Design Concepts 2006” at the red dot design museum in Singapore starting November 25, 2006.
