Insight Presented with Gold Recognition at MDEA Award Ceremony
June 5, 2008 – Insight Product Development received gold recognition for its 2008 Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA) for work on Xoran Technologies' xCAT, a compact, portable CT scanner. The award was presented during a ceremony for all MDEA winners in New York City at the MDM East Conference and Exposition.
The MDEA is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions or advances in the design of medical products. Entries are evaluated on the basis of their design and engineering features and the ability of the product development team to overcome design and engineering challenges so that the product meets its clinical objectives. A review of the entries was performed by an impartial, multidisciplinary panel of third-party jurors with expertise in biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial design, medicine and diagnostics.
"Working with Xoran on this design was a great experience. We collaborated with them to provide an excellent design and engineering solution for their breakthrough technology, and we are very excited for both ourselves and Xoran for winning this prestigious award," said Craig Scherer, senior partner at Insight.
The xCAT is designed for ENT surgeries inside the OR. Typically, CT scanners are extremely large room-sized devices. Xoran Technologies shrunk down the CT technology into an ultra portable device that is a fraction of the size of a full-body scanner and about 1/10 the weight. Insight's engineering, design and interface work helped Xoran achieve the function and the aesthetic they needed for a successful and groundbreaking device.
This is Insight's fourth Medical Design Excellence Award.
