Mark Slaven a Judge for the 2009 iF Design Award China
August 11, 2009 – Mark Slaven, partner and general manager of Insight’s Shanghai office, was invited by the iF Design Award committee to be one of the six international judges for the iF Design Award China, a division of the award for businesses based in or with a satellite office in China. The judging took place August 5th in Shanghai, where Slaven, along with judges from Australia, Belgium, China, Japan and Taiwan, evaluated the entries.
"Judging the awards was a true honor. To be part of an international panel as the judge from the United States was an incredible experience. I was very impressed by the entries and we had tough decisions to make," said Slaven.
Fifteen different categories, including transportation design, computers, furniture, packaging and healthcare, were available for entry. The jury evaluated entries on several criteria, such as functionality, ergonomics, branding and universal design. The winners will be announced in October in Shanghai, as part of the Shanghai International Creative Industry Week, the most prominent international design, fashion and architecture event on the Chinese mainland.
The iF Design Award celebrates functionality and aesthetics of products. Six years ago the China-specific award was launched and it has grown to include manufacturers, designers and architects. The iF Design Award China grew so rapidly that the award officials made the entry materials are available in both English and Chinese.
The iF Product Design Award was introduced in 1954 and is annually conferred by the iF International Forum Design. Along with the red dot design award it is the most important international product design award. Every year it attracts more than 2,000 product entries from 37 countries, which are judged by renowned experts. The winners receive an iF seal of outstanding design quality.
