Cardinal Bone Cement Delivery System
A process that stinks
Cardinal healthcare had a product that delivered a cement solution to the vertebrae to stabilize bone fractures and relieve pain. The problem was that the delivery protocol only provided for an injection device. The process required a powdered polymer to be mixed with a liquid monomer in a plastic bowl, into a paste of a specific viscosity, then transferred into a small injection tube with a little stick. This cumbersome task had to be done quickly to maintain appropriate mixture, and was dreaded for the notoriously noxious odor created when the two substances were mixed.
