Reducing steps

In order to make this a more efficient medical device, Insight’s team of designers had several challenges to solve from the original system. The team sought to reduce the number of setup steps—the current system required a tedious 19 steps. The clinician might be under extreme pressure to prepare the system for use as quickly as possible. By reducing the number of setup steps required and automating many of the activities, the time required to prepare the device for use was reduced to just five steps. But even more importantly, the chance for operator (clinician) error is significantly reduced.
