Harnessing a technology
The current trend in office construction is for open-plan offices, where walls and doors have been exchanged for large open floor plans. While this approach has many benefits, one of the largest challenges for employees is the lack of privacy. To address this challenge, Herman Miller developed a technology called 'Babble', which masks telephone conversations with a babbled version of the users own voice. While the technology provided the necessary coverage and privacy, at the time it was brought to Insight it had not been designed to complement user behaviors and needs or the environment use. Essentially the challenge to Insight was to address the overall user and brand experience needed to make the technology successful.
“Insight brought passion, strategic thinking, and a consistent level of professionalism, but in the end it is all about the results, and they have done that!”
Bill DeKruif - Director, Herman Miller
