Defining the experience
To gain an initial understanding of the impact of the technology to users and the environment, we designed a six-week longitudinal research study at a large global corporation with a large open-plan office environment. In the evaluation we installed Babble prototypes to a representative sample of employees. After installation we monitored the basic acceptance and rejection of the technology, the needs and challenges of the environment, and most importantly, how over time the Babble technology changed user behaviors and the environment to shape a unique privacy experience that could not be imagined prior to the new technology. In addition to the longitudinal study, we designed scenarios-of-use that illustrated different installations and designs. We also captured representative opinions regarding how the designs best represented desired privacy experiences as well as conveyed a new brand.
